We hear the word inflammation all the time and we are told we need to reduce it but what is inflammation? Inflammation is a natural process in which the body repairs damage to it’s tissues. We need the inflammation process to occur to fix problems in the body but when the body struggles to shut down the inflammation response once the issue has been fixed is where we end up with problems. In this episode Doc J breaks down why we need to support our body’s regulation of inflammation to prevent illness related to chronically inflamed bodies and the progression to autoimmune conditions.

1) Eat Closest to Nature – goal of 6-8 cups of veggies a day
What to eat to keep inflammation in the body in check:
Choose from the following and add into at least 2-3 meals or snacks a day.
Good fats: walnuts, nuts (1/4 cup raw or sprouted), olive oil (2 tbsp), cold water fish (3-4 oz), avocados (1/2 of a whole)
Spices – ginger, turmeric, rosemary, oregano, cloves, nutmeg, cayenne- 2 tbsp a day fresh or dried
Green tea – Oolong is my favorite type
Sulphaforane – prevents and reverses blood vessel damage – inhibits inflammation causing joint inflammation – broccoli/cabbage family – 2 cups a day
½ cup – Onions./nettles/okra, 5 spears of asparagus, capers (1 tbsp) – have quercetin which inhibits histamine the signal for increasing inflammation
Dark leafy greens – kale, red and green lettuce – 2 cups a day
½ cup – Berries, cranberries, cherries, elderberries, goji berries, plums, -1 whole, apples – one whole, whole grains, brown rice, quinoa, bulgur wheat – whole grains
2) Move more – work on joint mobility daily
3) Stress Management – channel your inner 5 year old – have fun, take breaks, laugh and breathe every day

Devil’s claw, cat’s claw, turmeric, mangosteen, boswellia, willow bark
Chinese Herbs that are anti-inflammatory:
Andrographis – atherosclerosis, decreases total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL cholesterol levels
