I was asked last weekend, what do you do?
Jokingly I said I’m a witch doctor who practices health.
The look on my Dad’s friend’s face was priceless.
My Dad chimes in and says yes, she’s really good with needles and cupping.
This guy was like ok and the conversation hit a dead end as he decided my Dad was more interesting to talk to than me.
It got me thinking about the concept of practicing medicine vs health.
I do write prescriptions and sometimes it feels like I’m a legal drug dealer but medicines have their place.
I’d much rather practice health, it’s more fun to think of ways to infuse healthy habits into one’s world.
So I ask you, what are you doing every day to practice health?
Are you….
- taking time to slow down and breathe during the day?
- drinking adequate water for your body?
- fueling your body with non-toxic food?
- surrounding yourself with clean air?
- moving every day?
- doing bodywork to help with mobility?
- working on your thoughts and mindset?
- finding what lights you up and letting go of what drags you down?
- taking herbs or supplements that support your health?
It’s easy to get caught up in life and skip your health practices.
And the more you skip them the harder it is to get back in the groove.
This is why it’s key to pick 1 or 2 things and practice them till they are habit.

Trying to do “all the things” when you start your health practice journey is overwhelming.
For example, each year I evaluate what’s working for me in my health practices and what needs an adjustment.
Because of my recent increase in back pain I decided to geek out on fascial release therapy with Julia Blackwell’s Roller Remedy.
In the two plus months I’ve been doing it I’ve learned a lot about my strengths, weaknesses and areas of tightness in my hips and down my legs.
Because I believe everyone can benefit from self bodywork skills I brought Julia Blackwell back on my podcast to talk about self fascial release and trauma stuck in the body.
She’s a wealth of information and presents it well.
