All the rumors about the power grids and technology not being able to handle the century change. 

Everyone was wondering what it would be like if none of your technology worked!

And back then it was just my flip phone, dial up internet and digital clocks I was worried about! 😂

We’ve come a long way since 2000!

Chances are there are a few great stories or adventures!

This time of year it’s common for many to rehash the negatives and wallow in the things that didn’t happen. 

What good does that do?

Nothing!

Past is in the past and as my favorite T-shirt states “Let That Shiitake Go!”

With 2024 arriving in a few days I encourage you to think about all the things you want to happen in the new year, or even today for that matter!

You are in control of what comes to you – your health, happiness, satisfaction in life – all of it!

Getting what you want is rooted in how you think.

A belief is a thought you think over and over again.

Your beliefs getting in the way of what you want?

Create new ones!

If you’re going to make a New Year’s resolution – make it something you can think over and over again till it becomes a hard wired belief!

Let’s take weight loss and getting healthy…

…if you believe you struggle to lose weight, it will be a struggle. 

Find yourself expressing how hard it is to workout or live a healthy lifestyle – it will be hard!

You are a direct reflection of your beliefs and your identity. 

If you identify with getting older and say you’re “tool old for” xyz – you will be.

Say you’ll never do xyz – you probably won’t do whatever that is. 

If you’re going to make a New Year’s resolution, make sure it’s one that you believe or are going to work to believe you can achieve. 

Mantras, affirmations or “afformations” are crucial to repeat for your success. 

While they may sound goofy, like they once did to me, it’s clear they do work. 

There’s this thing called the Raikov Effect. 

It was created by a Russian Neuropsychiatrist Vladimir Raikov in the early 70’s who was using hypnosis to help his students learn new skills quickly. 

Using his techniques subjects went from average to expert in chess and piano while scientists were transformed into artists. 

How?!

Subjects pretended to be the person with the skills they wanted to have till they mastered the skills themselves.

Much like an actor playing a role in a movie, they studied the person they wanted to become.

They carried out each day acting out all the habits, behaviors and routines of the expert chess, piano or artists.

Think of some of the most compelling portrayals by actors you’ve seen on the big screen. 

One that comes to mind is Bradley Cooper in the 2018 movie, A Star is Born.

He wasn’t known for being a singer but he impressed the masses with his performance alongside Lady Gaga. 

While it’s easy to think of a million excuses why you couldn’t act your way into new habits, behaviors or routines…

…the reality is – you’re no different from any of the actors, phenomenons and experts out there. 

Your thoughts and past experiences have created the wiring in your brain that’s getting in your way of whatever you desire.

Repetitive thoughts dictate your habits, routines and behaviors.

You are what you think. 

If you want to achieve something in 2024 – become an actor and portray the life you want.

Start by…

  • writing out all the habits, routines and behaviors of the person you need to become to achieve your goals (this person can be a real person or a fictional character that you will make a reality).
  • list out any other details that can help you to hone in on this person
  • record you talking as this person you’re becoming and telling you about yourself
  • listen to the recording each morning
  • act out the habits, routines and behaviors of this person and the character will become the future you
  • as needed schedule upgrades to the person you’re becoming to keep evolving

I have a friend who does this and gives himself versions like 2.0 and the like each year!

Life is too short to make resolutions each year and bail on them 2 weeks later. 

You have the potential to become whomever you want and achieve whatever you desire. 

The past doesn’t define you.

It’s old news.

Create the new you!

There’s nothing stopping you but you!
