I woke up the day after my birthday with my right eye glued shut.
Talk about a blast from the 80’s when I last had a bacterial eye infection.
Seriously universe?
What kind of sick joke is this?!
And why my eye?
My sister-in-law announced I would develop a mysterious illness after 40 and sure enough my eyes started to decline as if on cue.
Now at 46 an eye infection…
…after the annoyance cleared , I washed my eye out with nanosilver and I as I was prepping up my 1.25% iodine solution a light bulb went off.
For the last few months I’d been struggling with dry eyes.
Dry tissue of any kind is more susceptible to infections because the natural lubrication flushing the bugs away isn’t there to do it’s job.
Urinary tract infections are common when vaginal tissue is dry.
Uh…one of the hallmark’s of getting old…drying out faster.
Skin, hair you name it – it’s drier.
I’ve even noticed I need sauces to get down grilled meat or chicken.
If this sounds like you it’s time to assess a few things.
- hydration – make sure 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water minimum a day
- fatty acid intake – omega 3’s fish/flax/cod liver it’s worth it
- high moisture and cooling foods foods – cucumbers, watermelon, lettuce, mung beans, celery, melons
- vitamin A rich foods – sweet potatoes, yams, mango, dark leafies and fresh herbs
- vitamin C rich foods – kiwi, citrus, dark leafies, pepers and herbs

While I’m not sure where I picked this up…
…I can tell you I was living it up last week doing some things I rarely do.
I had the best time jet skiing and being pulled on a tube with all kinds of lake water spraying in my face.
Had a scoop of ice cream at Cathy’s (it’s a legend if you ever find yourself St. Germain, WI) and sipped ice tea a few times at the Red Canoe coffee shop.

As the dog days of summer close in and days get a little bit hotter here in the northern hemisphere my story is a good reminder to keep your tissues hydrated.
Save yourself some grief and looking like a pirate 🏴.
It’s not pretty, I’m not sharing photos.
Only a few lucky folks got to see it yesterday and hopefully I can keep the views to a minimum today.
Getting older is an adventure – I hope to keep you entertained and prevent you from experiencing some of the woes by making connections when I can!
