The first class I took in naturopathic medical school was called “Doctor, Heal Thyself.”

Through the lens of a 21-year-old Midwest gal who wasn’t all-in on the woo-woo, this class seemed… goofy.

The first time I heard a professor at Bastyr say, “You’re drawn to a profession because you’re working to heal a wound within yourself,” I gave a big eye roll.

When they started talking about something called the Vis Medicatrix Naturae—Latin for “The Healing Power of Nature”, I was skeptical.

Yet something kept me from quitting, and I continued my studies as various doctors lectured on “the Vis” aka “the Force” as if we were stuck in a Star Wars movie the entire first year of training.

Maybe I was too young. Too caught up in pop culture. Too worried about what people would think.

I was even dumped by the boyfriend I’d had since 8th grade during my second year of ND school because he decided I was “going too deep into witchcraft.”

Considering my dad only stopped calling me a “witch doctor” a few years ago, I can see his perspective, they’re still friends.

But 25 years later, I now see it, feel it, and understand more than ever why I’m still here.

I started my practice playing alchemist by going heavy on herbs, making elixirs, tinctures, and teas for my patients.

When those weren’t strong enough, I moved to injections: herbs, homeopathics, vitamins, and minerals.

When those didn’t do the trick, I moved to compounded medications, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), peptides, and hormones.

Over the last 19 years, I’ve moved up the chain of higher “force” interventions and at times, I felt like a legal drug dealer.

All while struggling with a voice in my head telling me I wasn’t a good doctor… and that natural medicine was all BS.

But what is “natural medicine,” anyway?

You’d think it’s herbs, supplements, vitamins, nutrition, basically anything alternative to conventional medicine.

But notice… I didn’t mention you.

And chances are, you didn’t think of it that way either.

The “Vis” or “Force” is within all of us.

Modern medicine has pulled us away from this truth and sent us searching for a magic pill or potion outside of ourselves.

But it’s not the pills, herbs, peptides, hormones, or even medications that heal us.

They simply give the body signals.

The body does the healing.

We’re living in a time where health information and options are everywhere yet people are sicker than ever.

Conditions are becoming more complex, layered with toxicity, infections, and chronically dysregulated nervous systems.

Yes, my patient base is getting older and that plays a role but that’s not the whole story.

For every condition, there are conflicting recommendations.

Go down one rabbit hole, and you’ll find another pointing in the opposite direction.

So what if you stopped searching for someone else’s solution…

…and started looking within?

What if you already had the answers to help decode your symptoms?

With AI bots, social media influencers, and untrained “experts” everywhere, who can you trust?

Yourself.

Your health starts with learning how to interpret your body’s signals and building trust in what it’s telling you.

From there, you can take in information that resonates and test what works for you.

I’m here to guide you, to help you listen to your body and trust its signals.

You are the doctor of the future.

You are the healing power of nature, the Vis Medicatrix Naturae.

So if you’re struggling to feel good in your body, maybe it’s time to become an expert on yourself… instead of your condition.
