Every so often I think…what if you ditched your sensible pearl white Hyundai Santa Fe for something flashy like a candy apple red 1966 mustang convertible, grabbed your best friend (kind of Thelma & Louise style) and went on an adventure?
Imagine the wind in your hair as you take the hair-pin curves of The Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton Colorado through the breathtaking views of the steep cliffs that fall off into the Uncompahgre Gorge.
Thoughts of escaping to the Canadian Rockies or South Western Colorado along with sailing the crystal clear blue and teal waters of the Caribbean are more frequent the closer I get to 50.
What about you?
Is there something deep within calling you to step out of your daily grind?
What’s holding you back from acting on your desires?
Hollywood and the media have portrayed a midlife crisis as a bad thing.
But what if it’s part of you trying to get back to the real you, the one you left behind to fit into society’s mold or because life called for you to adult responsibly?
Do you find yourself saying, “I wish I could….”?
In my recent podcast I dive into this awakening I’ve seen clients go through and myself included (click HERE to listen in).
This mid-life thing…it’s only a crisis if you let it be one…or dare I say ignore the messages from deep within and live your life wondering…what if?
I see so many great ideas left behind because of the following reasons…
Fear – the what if’s, what will people say, who may you be impacting by your decisions
Procrastination – fear disguised in making excuses to wait to do what you want
Self sabotaging – letting your excuses like money or time get in the way of finding joy
Fear in the body creates tight muscles and poor circulation.
Poor circulation anywhere in the body can lead to imbalances and eventually illness.
In Chinese Medicine fear is related to your kidney energy.
Your adrenal glands sit on top of your kidneys.
The adrenal glands are in charge of making cortisol, producing hormones after menopause, balancing your blood sugar and electrolytes.
I refer to your kidney energy as your “batteries” as it’s directly connected to your fight or flight nervous system and your vagus nerve.

If there’s a lot of fear you will be fatigued because your body thinks you’re running marathons 24/7 to get away from whatever it is that scares you.
Even if it’s your thoughts…
…and hormone shifts can give you some wild thoughts.
I find it interesting how the body’s shift in fueling of hormones from ovaries to adrenal glands in peri-menopause to menopause cause an awakening on so many levels, especially in women who have been living in fight or flight mode for years.
Maybe it was divinely created this way to help you get back to the real you.
The one who played make believe, dreamed big and had so many ideas about what your future would be like.
Over that last 17 years of practice the connection between accelerated aging and not having joy in life has become clear to me.
And now I’m seeing it in my life.

I may use the excuse of “the hormones made me do it”, I might even make a T-shirt to capitalize on it but I’m grateful to the shift in hormone fueling to wake me up to a life not well lived.
While another year is coming to a close, I invite you to ponder – what could you do that would bring you more joy in life?
You don’t have to blow up your entire life to do this.
I love the saying one day at a time because it keeps you present, in the moment pondering – what could I do today to feel joy that’s so good every cell is smiling?
Not sure where to start or need a little re-assuring that your feelings are totally normal?
