Hi,
Antibiotics, antivirals and even anti-parasitic meds aren’t touching it.
Last week was a doozy for coughs, urgent care visits and folks a week plus into feeling awful and not getting better.
If you haven’t had it yet – it’s time to bolster up your immune system…
…and if you’re still dealing with it there’s a few nuggets in here for you too.
For those of you who haven’t had it or feel like you may be getting it….
- Up your vitamin C 2-4 grams a day – go to what your gut can handle
- Take zinc 30 mg a day with food
- Use CoFix or an Iodine Nasal spray and if you can’t tolerate iodine use silver nasal spray or Beekeeper’s Natural Max Spray
- Vitamin D at least 2,000 IU a day
- Consider a 14 mg nicotine patch cut into 6 equal pieces and wear a small patch daily (Dr. Ardis preventative protocol).
For those of you who have it…
- Generic guaifenesin 1200 mg take it every 12 hours – you want to thin that mucus (Note: NAC isn’t working as well as Guaifenesin)
- Stay on Vitamin C and see if you can up to to bowel tolerance (aka when you get loose stools back down by 1 gram)
- Hydration + electrolytes – need to clear that mucus
- Stay off dairy, gluten, wheat, corn, soy + sugar – they all can be inflammatory and increase mucus
- Diffuse tea tree, oregano or thyme or all 3 in the house, Theives or OnGuard by Doterra works too.
- Spray essential oils into the steam of your showers or do a steam inhalation 1-2x a day
- Eat spicy foods, wasabi or horse radish to keep the nasal passages moving
- If you have red light therapy at home put it on your face to get to the sinuses (keep your eyes closed or wear something over them during treatment).
- Spray your throat with “Kick-Ass Immune” spray, gargle with sea salt or Redmond’s real salt 1/2 oz water per 1/8 tsp of salt.
- Bronchial wellness cough syrup – Gaia Herbs
Those of you who are coughing, lost your voice and are frustrated that it’s day 10+ of this and you can’t kick it…
- Lay low don’t push it – this bug has you thinking you’re over it one day then boom sick again (this can happen up to 3 times during its course)
- Grab an albuterol inhaler for your doc if you can to help with opening the airways
- If you’re really having trouble breathing – beclomethasone inhalers (yes a steroid inhaler meant for COPD – I know I’m a naturopath but ya gotta do what you gotta do)
- Nebulized glutathione – you can get this from a compounding pharmacy but you’ll need a doctor’s prescription – 200 mg/mL nebulized twice daily. (I prefer this over steroid inhalers)
- Stay on the D, Zinc and C
- Nicotine patches – 7 mg patch daily (Rugby brand) – Dr. Ardis Protocol – may provide some relief as it’s meant for long haul symptoms
This bug is a doozy and packs a punch that can have you feeling crappy for a few weeks.
Be patient with yourself and honor the break your body is asking for!
Here’s to getting better faster,
Dr. J
PS: Micro-greens can be amazing vitamin packed nutrients to get in, especially when you’re not feeling like eating much. Listen in to my podcast with Nick Craciun to learn more about them by clicking below.
PPS: Keep in mind these are suggestions not replacement for medical advice. This bug is a tough one, seek medical care if your symptoms are un-manageable.
