8% of people stick with their New Year’s resolutions long term.

The rest…can use the lessons learned in January to pivot in February toward a sustainable plan.

Maybe you’re thinking why do I even try to set goals each year for my health only to quit on them again.

You’re not alone and there’s nothing wrong with you.

It’s likely there’s a mismatch between health goals and values.

My foodie clients are the ones who struggle the most to make dietary change.

If you value good food but you don’t know how to prepare “healthy” food in a way that matches your food values you are going to have a battle in your mind.

Most folks believe healthy food can’t taste as good as Michelin 4 star restaurant food (or the local spot where people will wait in line to get in that doesn’t leave you needing a burger afterwards).

This is where investing in healthy foodie cooking classes goes a long way.

Perhaps you can’t seem to get into exercise.

But you value being social…

…is there a way to pair social time and movement like walking, or dancing?

Say you want to lose weight but you value trying out new restaurants, foods and flavors?

How could you gravitate to restaurants that are healthier in their food preparation or find cooking classes that highlight ethnic flavors made healthy?

What if you challenged yourself to have friends over and make new meals together?

So…what do you value in life above all else?

How can you use those things to fuel your healthy desires?

Here’s an example of my top values and how I use them to provoke health change…

Learning new things is a big deal to me so if I’m in need of an adjustment in my health…tying it to a learning experience will keep me motivated.

I value exploring – it could be inside or outdoors – give me a new place and my inner Lewis and Clark will emerge.

Animals are a must in my life so using a pet to entice me always works.

Want to get me out of a a fitness rut?

Teach me something new, show me new places I can do this new thing in and if I can bring a pet along it’s a bonus.

I’m currently playing with calisthenics and loving learning how to finally do a handstand and all the chairs, counters, rocks and railings I can use to play with calisthenics.

Bonus – Bryguy, my pup, can hang out indoors and out with my new jam!

What could fuel your values and inspire you to stick with a healthy habit?
