Your gut knows. It tells you when something’s off — through bloating, reflux, constipation, pain, or that gnawing discomfort you can’t ignore. But here’s the tricky part: Most of us either miss the signals completely… Or we’re hyper-aware and exhausted trying to decode them. One of the most common complaints I hear from my patients — second only to fatigue — is chronic gut trouble.SIBO that won’t go away. Constipation that flares up with stress. Stomach pain that’s “just like my dad had.”(And yes — I used to say that too… until I realized my gut didn’t inherit his issues. It learned his stress patterns.)Your Gut May Not Need Another Protocol — It Might Need a Nervous System ResetIn this week’s HealthFix Podcast, I sat down with Dr. Ali Navidi, a licensed clinical psychologist and co-founder of GI Psychology, to talk about how gut issues often start with brain-to-gut and gut-to-brain miscommunication.Instead of treating gut symptoms from the gut up, we go from the brain down— and the insights are powerful. In my own gut health journey I tested for everything under the sun from SIBO to food sensitivities and ended up with no concrete evidence that anything was off. I tried numerous gut restoration protocols and many helped – but only temporarily. What worked the best was working on nervous system resets when I realized my gut often responded to stressful situations I experienced. I started with lying down with my legs up and my thumbs in my ears on the ridge above my ear holes for 5 minutes aka positional parasympathetic breathing. And when it wasn’t convenient to lay down I worked on the “lip gloss” application where I pretended to apply lip gloss 6 times by tracing my lips. Or I “cleaned my teeth” by running my tongue over the front of my teeth – 6 times. Those little vagus nerve resets turned out to be game changers for my gut as I practiced them over time. Is Your Gut Burned Out?Here’s the thing — your gut can take a lot. But decades of fast eating, over-chewing raw veggies, dairy, spicy food, sugar, big meals, too much water at mealtime, and poor stress management… it adds up. Then there’s your liver — carrying the toxin load from processed foods, alcohol, medications, and emotional burnout. Your gut might seem fine… until it’s not. And when it starts talking, it’s time to listen. Not just to food triggers — but to emotional ones too.🎙️ Listen to Episode #566 now to hear how gut-brain therapy can unlock healing in a whole new way.
