You try to meditate and do breathing exercises because you know they are good for you.
Each time you try, your mind kicks into reviewing things you haven’t thought about in 20 years and making lists of all the “should” things for the week.
If that’s you, you’re not alone.
I joined a full and new moon meditation learning group a few months back.
Twice a month, I’ve been practicing the meditation exercises with the group, and in between, I work on my own meditations.
What I’ve learned is I’m not a sit still and meditate kinda gal.
I need movement to get into that chill state, and playing in my garden or paddleboarding seems to be that sweet spot these days.
Running used to be.
Chances are you have something that serves this purpose for you too.
I know so many folks run for the stress-relieving response, and they don’t realize it until they have an injury and feel like they’re losing their mind until they can get out and run again.
The more I dive into the science of meditative movements like Tai Chi and Qi Gong, the more I realize how beneficial it is to have a practice of this type if you’re not good with sitting and breathing.
With the Elonga HRV monitoring device, I’ve been monitoring my habits from walking, reading, workouts, Qi Gong, and gardening.
The results show I rejuvenate my body better and have less stress on the days I get outside, read, and move more with walking or Qi Gong.
While that may seem like an obvious conclusion that didn’t need HRV to show me the benefit, I felt I had to test it to see it for myself.
This brings me back to my theory that humans need to promote circulation in their body to reduce stress and help with daily rejuvenation.
If all your parts are not getting proper circulation, they can’t recover from the previous day.
This is why athletes have light mobility movement days after their events.
I believe the circulation concept applies to hormone balancing and longevity too.
So if you’ve been told to “just meditate” or do some “breath work,” it’s time to see if there’s a movement you enjoy that can be meditative for you.
Here’s to keeping moving,
Dr. J
