When I was 11, I fell hard on my right hip doing an axel on the ice.

I got my period not long after and the pain it caused was impossible to separate.

My mom was a nurse, and when she said painful periods were normal, I believed her.

For the next two decades, sexual activity was painful. Pap exams were torture. I was offered antidepressants, lube, and birth control.

Nobody, not my gynecologists, not even my naturopathic school ever mentioned pelvic floor physical therapy.

I found Dr. Brianne Grogan the way a lot of us find things that change our lives: a random YouTube rabbit hole after an acupuncture class on pelvic floor releases.

Her hip circle videos looked fun. I tried them. My right hip released in a way it hadn’t in years.

I reached out. We became friends. And over the last decade she’s helped me go deeper into pelvic pain than I ever thought possible.

This year, I spent three days at her Healing House in Central Oregon — hiking, eating well, and doing the most profound bodywork of my life.

What came out of my sacrotuberous ligament, the one I likely tore during that childhood fall was decades of anger, grief, and frustration I didn’t know I was carrying. It wasn’t pretty. Emotions spewed out of me like Mt. Vesuvius.

And since that experience in January, I’ve had zero pelvic pain.

If you’ve ever been told your pain is normal, been offered a pill instead of a solution, or quietly given up on feeling good in your body, this episode is for you.
