I’m no different than most people, I want the magic pill and the quick results when it comes to health issues.
In ND school, we were always told things may take weeks to months to resolve yet I was convinced I’d figure a way to get the herbs, homoepathics and natural remedies to work faster.
When they didn’t work I’d either blame myself for not knowing what I was doing and begin to feel like natural medicine was a scam.
Oddly enough, I never felt like I fit in with the Naturopathic Doctor crowd and didn’t make an effort to interact with many of my colleagues.
That was a big mistake, I’ll tell you why in a second.
Right before the pandemic, I’d hit burnout in my career and didn’t want to do naturopathic medicine anymore so I focused more on acupuncture because I could see the benefits of decreased pain and improved mobility right after the session.
Unfortunately, the pandemic shut down my acupuncture practice to one patient an hour, which makes it hard to pay rent on top of an assistant’s salary and mine in addition to an audit by the state of Washington that happened right at that same time that cost me thousands.
Yet, that time was a benefit in disguise as I re-ignighted my love for herbs and all things natural medicine as it was what I had to work with when I chose to move back to Wisconsin and do 75% telehealth.
I realized how to trust the herbs and pair them hormones and peptides to amplify results.
It led me to connecting with the doc’s from the Wisconsin Naturopathic Doctor’s Association and realizing how powerful natural medicine truly is when you can’t prescribe hormones or medications!
These next few weeks on the podcast I’m featuring two of my fellow NDs here in Wisconsin.
They have vastly different practices from me and I’m fascinated by how Dr. Kerry Niebrdowski has been mixing Chinese Medicine, traditional naturopathic medicine, homeopathy and Bach flower remedies for over 20 years in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and how Dr. Sara Norris has been working alongside a medical doctor in a Functional Medicine and esthetics practice just outside of Greenbay for almost a decade.
I hope they give you an insight into the vast resources NDs have been trained in as well as the different options you have for your health.
My goal is to show you what’s out there and see what lands for you as now is an incredible time to be alive to access what you need to address your health concerns.
If you’re curious about what an ND can do and how we may be able to help listen in to this podcast series and share with anyone that’s looking for a different approach to healthcare.
Here’s to sharing resources,
Dr. J
