If you’re over 40 and not feeling right in your body this is for you.
I have to admit, I had forgotten about this connection and a client of mine reminded me with an email this week!
So thanks to her, here to a vitamin C breakthrough!
I hear this all the time:
“My labs are normal, but I still feel awful.”
“My weight won’t change.”
“My hot flashes won’t go away for good.”
“I’m not sleeping through the night and I’m exhausted.”
Here’s the truth most women aren’t told:
This isn’t a hormone problem.
It’s a metabolic problem.
There’s a missing piece that determines whether hormones actually work in your body, and it centers around a vitamin you already know… Vitamin C.
Not as an immune booster.
Not as an antioxidant buzzword.
But as a hormone-regulating molecule.
Researchers led by Tom Levy have identified something called the ICV Axis: Insulin, Cortisol, and Vitamin C.
This axis quietly decides whether your estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and thyroid hormones can do their job.
Here’s what happens in midlife:
Stress goes up → cortisol gets dysregulated
Blood sugar gets rocky → insulin rises
Vitamin C gets depleted (fast)
And when that happens, hormones stop responding—even if your labs look “perfect.”
Vitamin C is required for:
• Making and shutting down cortisol
• Stabilizing blood sugar and insulin signaling
• Supporting adrenal resilience
• Improving mitochondrial energy
• Smoothing hot flashes and mood swings
• Improving sleep and stress tolerance
• Making hormone receptors responsive again
Low vitamin C doesn’t look like scurvy.
It looks like:
- Hot flashes
- Insomnia
- Emotional volatility
- Weight resistance
- Hormones that suddenly feel “off”
- Feeling like your body isn’t responding anymore
Here’s the line I want you to remember:
You cannot fix hormones unless you fix insulin, cortisol, and vitamin C.
Raising estrogen.
Tweaking progesterone.
Adding testosterone.
None of it works predictably if this axis is unstable.
This is why so many women become “non-responders” to BHRT, GLPs, or metabolic resets.
And the good news?
When this axis is corrected, hormones start behaving again often without increasing doses.
If you’ve done hormones, GLPs, or a metabolic reset and still feel stuck, this is the next step.
Not more hormones.
Better physiology.
We’ll be talking a lot more about this because for women over 40, this is a game changer.
I’ve been using PRFCT Hydration’s Tangerine Pulse vitamin and electrolyte drink in the morning with 500 mg of vitamin C and it seems to work for me (Try it out and use my code – JANNINE27663). Perhaps you may need a little more Vitamin C than in the hydration drink, such as 1-3grams a day. I like liposomal C from Quicksilver or from Beekeeper’s Naturals.
Here’s to adding in a little vitamin C,
Dr. Jannine
