n a world full of health tracking data from Fitbits to Oura Rings, Whoop, Garmin, and Apple Watches how do you know what’s actually best for you to track?

To get the most meaningful data on yourself, you have to start with your goal aka your end outcome in mind.

It’s easy to get caught up in collecting fun data on your body, but if you’re doing it just for bragging rights on sleep scores (yes, Mom-in-law, I see you 😄), you’re missing out on what really matters.

As the end of the year approaches, it’s a good time for a little reflection on your health goals… are you where you want to be?

If you could fast-forward to this time next year, what would you like to have mastered when it comes to your health?

Once you have your goal, mission, or outcome in mind, write it down.

Yes, actually put pen to paper. There’s real magic in that versus typing it into the notes section of your phone.

Let me walk you through a simple sequence.

Let’s say your mission for 2026 is to feel good in your body and increase your energy levels.

Awesome. You wrote it down, right?

Good.

Step two: Did you take my latest quiz to help narrow down what may be causing you to feel fatigued or just “off” in general?

If you haven’t taken the quiz yet, it’s designed to help you dial in your focus and identify interventions to test out. (Click HERE to take my quiz.)

Quizzes not your thing? That’s okay. Your step two is to identify the lifestyle habits and environmental factors that may be zapping your energy.

Hint:
Diet
Hydration
Movement
Sleep
Relationships
Environmental toxins (hygiene products, cleaners, air and water quality)
Nervous system balance

If you did take the quiz, add any lifestyle habits it flagged that may be draining your energy.

Step three: When it comes to energy, there’s often a foundational health component that’s being overlooked. Be brutally honest with yourself here.

Many people I see are fatigued because they aren’t sleeping optimally, aren’t moving consistently throughout the day, aren’t challenging their heart daily, and have nervous systems and circadian rhythms that are out of sync with modern life.

Now is the time to decide and write down…what you’re going to do about the things that may be draining your energy.

Step four: What health tech tools would give you the most useful data to assess whether you’re improving?

If fatigue is driven by sleep and movement, a Fitbit can be a very cost-effective option. A device like the Oura Ring dives deeper into sleep and provides insight into HRV.

HRV: heart rate variability, reflects both heart health and nervous system health and can be incredibly helpful in assessing whether you’re supporting circulation and movement as well as nervous system balance.

Step five: Create a plan to address what needs support and be willing to tweak it as you go to see results improve over time.

As you can see, the best things to track depend entirely on your goal.

Many people think weight is the ultimate metric for weight loss, but what if tracking fat loss through DEXA scans along with sleep and movement matters just as much?

You want to focus on the habits that actually move you toward your outcome.

I’ve said it over and over again: focusing on the problem gives you more of the problem.

Focusing on the steps to manage the problem leads you to the solution.

Yesterday, my podcast with Thoryn from Health One,  an AI-based health tracking tool, went live.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from clients is that they don’t have a single place to track all their health habits and progress.

This may become a solution over time.

Until then, as this year comes to a close, take inventory of where you want to be in 2026 and start creating your plan.

You don’t have to wait until New Year’s. Start now.
