Hi Joel,My 84 year old neighbor will make any excuse to take Brian, my pup and I for rides on his golf cart around the neighborhood. Now these aren’t your average roll through the streets in a 55+ neighborhood kinda rides. He has lots of acres with trails that have been in his family for almost 200 years. |
| The places we go with his decked out off roading cart you’d think we were on a 4-wheeler. Last week, I popped by his house to do some acupuncture on him and of course he couldn’t resist asking if he could drive me home!I live 1/4 mile from him but we always find a way to loop around the hood on his trails for fun. The smile on his face as we zip between tunnels between corn fields and careen down the rolling hills is infectious. He calls out all the spots where he went sledding, picked blackberries and fished as a kid. I now know who lives in every home or who did long ago. We often take the trip over to one of the largest dairy cow farms in Wisconsin to look at the “cow butts” on the milking carousel as it’s wide open in the summer for the public to view. If you come visit me in the summer, he will no doubt take you out for a ride!Last Friday he decided he wanted to take me to his favorite golf course down the way in Marion, Wisconsin for our weekly golf date.As we rolled up to the course I realized this wasn’t going to be about the golfing, it was the cart adventure at this place. Sure he kicked my butt on the course like usual but I didn’t care, I had so much fun flying up and down the hills with him as a witness to him getting younger with every hill. Two weeks ago we ended up golfing on a Thursday afternoon where no one was on the course and the sprinklers were on.About 2 holes in the grounds crew caught on that someone was on the course and had a good laugh when they saw the two of us running through the sprinklers to hit our balls like 8 year olds on a hot day!If you would have told me I’d move to Wisconsin, befriend my neighbor for the best life lessons, I’d have never believed you. Norm has taught me so much about living life to the fullest at any age and I hope by sharing this story it inspires you to lean into the little things in life that keep you feeling young! Here’s to finding your fountain of youth, Dr. J |
