Yet, it’s being pushed, promoted and touted as the energy boosting magic juice for men and women.
Even my fellow compounding pharmacist pals and I have to agree to disagree here.
It’s not a panacea for…
- energy boosting
- libido enhancing
- strength building
- increasing lean body mass
…unless you put in some groundwork with nutrition and exercise first.
To be clear, I’m not anti-testosterone, I believe it has merit, is helpful and I prescribe it.
But not as the first line therapy.
Testosterone, like all the other hormones are icing on the cake when you have all the ingredients to the health recipe put together.
It’s not magic and doesn’t work on it’s own.
I’ve learned this the hard way in my practice by falling into the testosterone benefit hype.
From Men not restoring their libido, strength and physique at initial dosages so I thought going up on dosages may yield results.
Sadly the only thing that went up was cholesterol and blood sugar, along with them feeling worse.
At the same time many women who’ve added testosterone end up with unwanted side effects like acne, hair loss and agitation instead of the energy boost, weight loss and increased strength so many folks talk about.
Once again, lesson learned… the basics of health have to be in place for hormones to work optimally.
Yes, even doctors look for quick fixes for their patients!
Yet, there are hormone, weight loss and anti-aging clinics handing out all these meds and hormones without doing the foundational work.
