Numbness in your arms and hands at night is a warning sign that something is off!
It’s not uncommon to experience this when you have a nerve impingement in you neck.
But it can also mean something is off hormonally!
Because of the vertebral location of the thyroid, any decreased nerve activity in the neck has the ability to impact the thyroid and subsequently the adrenal glands.

Many experience this phenomenon when they are working on the computer more often, lifting heavier weights, doing certain projects around the house or are more fatigued.
Thyroid hormones shift with the sex hormones too so it’s possible for women to experience numbness cyclically!
What do you do?
Ideally you test and not guess …
- blood or saliva hormones – estradiol, total estrogens, progesterone, free & total testosterone, DHEA-sulfate, cortisol
- blood thyroid hormones – TSH, free T3/4, T3 uptake, reverse T3, anti-TPO, thyroglobulin antibody
- vitamin and mineral micronutrient testing or hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA)
And then…
Incorporate following into your protocol…
- electrolytes – sodium and potassium for nerve signaling
- magnesium – for muscles and hormone signaling
- calcium – for muscle signaling
- iodine – for thyroid support
- adaptogenic or adrenal herbs to support hormone production – ex: Adaptocrine by Apex in my adrenal reboot protocol
- seed cycling to give the body good fats to support hormone production and signaling – ex: Beeya Wellness – seed cycling simplified
It’s common for calcium to magnesium and sodium to calcium ratios to be off when there’s numbness at night.
Testing out a blend of “cal mag” minerals at night with Redmond’s salt at 1/2 -1/4 teaspoon during the day day is a solid “old school” protocol for fatigue and numbness.
While working on restoring balance in the body don’t forget the importance of…
- removing toxins from air, water, food and environment
- organic closest to nature diet
- exercises to restore cervical and thoracic spine curvature
- open up tissue around the 1st ribs with massage therapy
- red light therapy to the neck
- falling asleep on the back
- breath work – 4-2-6 (inhale x4, hold x2, exhale x 6) – practice 2x a day 10-15 breaths.
Stick with it for 3 months and repeat testing to see how you’re doing.

Numbness in the hands and arms is a major sign that circulation of nutrients is off and that your thyroid could be functioning sub-optimally.
More often than not, you don’t need thyroid medication to support the thyroid.
The thyroid isn’t famous for it’s role in supporting tendons, ligaments and nerves…
…yet it’s a big player and needs it’s minerals to function optimally.
If you’re noticing numbness more frequently it’s time to consider labs or test out some minerals with body work and a few neck exercises.
