How you walk determines where your head sits on your body.

I know that sounds like a stretch but neck pain can actually start in your feet.

In Chinese Medicine, the urinary bladder channel runs from your pinky toe up the back of your leg and body, over your head, and all the way to the inside corner of your eye.

Even thousands of years ago, they knew the feet and the head were connected.

To truly take care of your health, you have to take care of your feet.

A couple of months ago I had Deanna Hansen from Block Therapy on the podcast and she walked us through how to massage your feet and in between your toes.

It’s been about two months since that episode and I’m genuinely loving what six minutes a day has done for me.

Three minutes per foot just from freeing up the fascia.

Over two decades of working on bodies, I’ve noticed a consistent pattern, and there’s data to back it up: the tighter the fascia and skin over the muscles on your feet, the less mobility you have throughout your entire body and the higher your chances of being in pain somewhere.

What’s even wilder is that tight foot fascia is directly linked to increased stress in the body and a taxed nervous system.

The bottom of the foot is where Kidney 1 is located in Chinese Medicine; it’s the most grounding point in the entire body and the starting point of the kidney channel.

Sitting on top of the kidneys are the adrenal glands, which regulate the nervous system, hormones post-menopause, cortisol, electrolytes, blood sugar, and fluid balance.

So if you’re stressed, you’re likely carrying it in your feet and that tension can radiate all the way up to your head.

In this week’s podcast episode 610, I sit down with Dr. Don Kim, a podiatrist who is passionate about helping you build a foundation of healthy feet.

We get into the barefoot vs. supportive footwear debate, talk through plantar fasciitis, Morton’s neuromas, bunions, and chronic pain that originates in the feet, plus he shares what’s happening in the world of regenerative therapies for foot health.

I’m really excited for you to hear this one, and next week’s episode will build right off it.

I’ll be talking about a specific patch that has me fascinated when it comes to chronic and foot pain.
