My husband knew something was off when I kept calling shovels, ladders.

Then I made pizza crust when he asked me to make a pie crust.

And if that didn’t get me all wound up, a patient asked why I put my address and my social security number on her disability paperwork!

Events like this can have you thinking you have early onset dementia.

The mind loops on the stories of Uncle John’s disappearing act with Alzheimer’s or your Dad’s Mom who’s dementia had her blowing kisses at people she didn’t know.

You’re think ok great, what if these are early signs?

How do I get ahead of it?

The good news is there are tests for assessing estradiol, the hormone that your brain uses for mental acuity…
…and you can assess for the Alzheimer’s biomarker p-Tau 27.

P-tau-27 is a commercially available plasma immunoassay that has been shown with research to identify biological Alzheimer’s Disease even before symptoms show up. (check it out – Here)

There are also many cognitive and neurological tests to assess for dementia.

When it comes to hormones you can easily test with blood, saliva or urine.

And if you’re still getting a period taking notes as to when you’re struggling the most compared to where you are in your cycle can tell you best times to check hormones due to their variability.

Thyroid hormones can also be at play here so it’s worth a look at them too (and not just TSH…free T4, free T3, T3 uptake, reverse T3 for a full picture of thyroid hormone function).

Instead of causing yourself more stress going down dark rabbit holes on Google or Chat GPT – test and get ahead of the brain fog.

Knowledge is power when it comes to protecting your brain!

If this resonates with you, check out the Labcorp pTau-217 test and speak with your healthcare provider.

Say tuned for next week where I’m diving into research on steps you can take to keep your brain sharp for life!

Here’s to your brain,
