When stress touches every part of your health, supporting your nervous system isn’t optional—it’s essential.

If your protocols work for a bit and then stop…

Or if you’re extra sensitive to hormone therapy…

Your nerves are likely asking for help.

I’ve learned that adaptogenic herbs—nature’s stress buffers—are the missing link for many men and women in midlife. They help your body adapt to stress and restore resilience.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that herbs often pair with certain moods or symtomps:

  • Ashwagandha – Long-term stress, agitation, or insomnia (AM + PM)
  • Holy Basil – Anxiety, irritability, racing mind
  • Lemon Balm – Low level of always feeling stressed or slightly anxious
  • Schisandra Berry – Agitation, anger, frustration
  • St. John’s Wort – Low mood, apathy, aches & pains
  • Rhodiola – Stressful days, restless nights, poor recovery
  • Rehmannia Root – Fatigue, overwhelm, “tired & wired”
  • American Ginseng – Low motivation, deep fatigue (great with Rhodiola or Rehmannia)
  • Licorice Root – Stress hitting your gut, chronic fatigue, low blood pressure*(*Skip if your blood pressure runs high.)

I source most of my herbs from Mountain Rose Herbals or MediHerb by Standard Process, but whichever you choose, know who’s growing, sourcing, and handling your plants.

The best way to take herbs? Tinctures, herbs suspended in alcohol or glycerine, and creating combinations of 2-3 herbs to see how you respond.

No need to get fancy with combining, equal parts of all the herbs blended with 2-3 dropperfuls 2 times a day will give you a great idea if the blend will work for you or not.

I grow Lemon Balm and Holy Basil every summer in Wisconsin to make my own tinctures using a potato vodka for my extracting agent. (I use the Modern Herbal Dispensatory for making herbal medicines.)

If your nervous system is screaming, addressing what isn’t working in your life paired with an adaptogenic herbal formula can calm your symptoms.

That’s why inside my Vitality Sleuth Membership, I’m teaching members how to create personalized nervous system “chill routines”—to keep stress, hormones, and inflammation in check for the long haul.

Your nervous system sets the stage for every other system in your body.

Support it, and everything else gets easier.

Here’s to calmer days and steadier energy,
