Ron Beckenfeld weighed 103 pounds his junior year of high school and was told he’d never be able to look like the “fit guys” on the muscle magazines he enjoyed.

Decades later he’s still ripped and wearing his tank top daily to prove it with his supplement company, Superior Source Vitamins, leading his drive to stay in the fitness game.

Having lifted at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach for the last 60 years with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and many others Ron’s seen a lot of trends come and go.

What’s he found to be the most effective to get and stay fit for life?

Eating closest to nature.

He touts supplements as being something to “supplement with” and eating whole closest to nature foods, paying attention to your calories and avoiding junk foods is key.

I love that he believes the secret to being healthy is being able to read a nutrition label.

In our podcast – check it out HERE – he drops a lot of wisdom when it comes to fitness…

  • the importance of setting aside time to be consistent with fitness
  • getting it out of the way in the morning
  • balance your weight lifting and cardio for results
  • taking rest days
  • not being on your phone in the gym
  • knowing the macros you need to lose or maintain weight
  • taking supplements based on your needs

Nothing fancy in Ron’s daily rituals.

I believe Ron’s right – fitness and nutrition have been complicated by fancy diets and protocols.

The basics still always stand the test of time and in Ron’s case a lot of time.

While Ron is just one person, I’ve interviewed multiple folks over 40, and mined the oldest folks in the gyms I’ve gone to when it comes to fitness and the answer is always the same – dial in your nutrition and you’ll see change, be consistent and you’ll keep it going.

Have you’ve been researching for the secrets to nutrition and exercise for years, trying things out and not getting results?

It’s time to get back to basics and find a coach who can help you with accountability and consistency.

I’ve had a fitness coach for years and sometimes two depending on what I was working on.

My honest advice when it comes to getting fit and staying fit…

…spend the money on a coach for individualized support versus an online program where no one is going to get to know you and understand your needs.

I highly recommend seeking someone out in your area versus an online coach if you’re new to fitness.

Because of my love for fitness I have friends in many states, Canada and Germany – hit reply and ask about your area.

My online favorites:

Weight lifting – these are my two coaches:

Dr. John Rusin – (bands, weights and kettlebells) – John is a doctor of physical therapy turned fitness coach, I’ve worked with John for over 4 years, great with injury prevention and strength building (listen in to our podcast HERE).

Cody Waktins – I’ve worked with Cody for almost a year, no BS approach to fitness, macros and heavy with weight lifting. (check out one of our podcast HERE).

Women’s specific weight lifting – for a comprehensive concierge style 1:1 for those who are very committed to their success:

Lalaina “Lala” Duncan – @liftwithlala – Instagram – check out our podcast HERE.

General fitness and weight loss:

Ann Maria Tom Fitness – she’s been on my podcast a few times – check out this interview HERE

Melissa Vogel – Bomb Mom Fitness – our podcast comes out this Saturday!

Hope Pedraza – Hopeful and Wholesome – fitness meets spirituality and mindset – click HERE for one of my podcasts with Hope.
