Taking brain enhancing herbs, supplements and nootropics can help with cognitive function and nerve communication, but they are not powerful enough to override your thoughts.

I know this because I’ve seen this over and over again in my practice and with myself.

I’ve found that slowing down the brain is incredible for you to step back and see what the thoughts are that keep running through your brain.

In the past I thought that meditation wasn’t for me BUT that was before I truly understood how to use it. 

When I thought of meditation I imagined I had to be in a quiet room for 20+ minutes and I had to get to a point where my mind had no thoughts.

Each time I tried to meditate I would make lists of everything I had to do.

Interesting thing…after trying over and over again to meditate – while in many situations I realized it wasn’t the calm in my brain that was valuable.

It was the realization that I had looping negative thoughts of worry.

Turns out listening to my Dad worry about every little thing in life had transferred to me.

I see it in him now and I’m working with him to see if we can improve his cognition by working on positive thoughts.

While what I’m saying might sound bizarre, the reality is – there are folks doing research on the brain effects of meditation. 

They are using pre and post meditation MRIs to show the changes!

One of my favorite researchers, Dawson Church is using MRIs to track the effect of his meditations combined with EFT and the results are impressive.
