You’re an electrical being and your heart is the conductor of your electrical symphony.

You can’t address the cardiovascular system without addressing your energetic output.

Not the energy you have to get through the day.

How you feel in your body is equal to your energetic output.

Some call it your “vibe” while Chinese Medicine calls it Qi.

If your qi is abundant, your pulses will be strong and when you stick your tongue out in the mirror it will be pink in color, without a coat on it and not shaking or diverting to one side or the other.

You can get an energetic read on yourself every day – no fancy wearables needed.

Take your carotid or wrist pulse (thumb side of your wrist) with 2-3 fingers and just feel it’s strength.

You don’t even need to count the pulse if you don’t want to.

Spend a minute or so feeling the pulse under your fingers and start comparing it day by day.

The more you feel it pulsing and you don’t have to push your fingers down to find it  – the stronger your energy.

Pulse differentiation can be broken down to many variations in the Chinese Medicine realm and I’m not going there – I intend to keep it simple to get a read on your body.

Once you’re familiar with your pulse you’ll be able to identify low vs optimal energy days.

Then it’s key to get real with yourself about your mental health.

Where do you stand – really?

Feelings of stress, overwhelm, grief, anger, frustration, fear, and worry all impact your heart in various ways.

It’s likely you’ve heard of a story where a older man or woman passes and their partner passes of a “broken heart” not too long afterwards?

Part of this phenomenon is an energetic imbalance that leads to illness or death.

Some refer to it as stuck emotions – either way it’s stuck energy.

You don’t want stuck energy – you want good circulation of energy, same as good circulation.

To achieve this it’s crucial to approach cardiovascular care wholistically.

This is why I talk about…(search my blog with “heart rate variability”)

  • exercise and heart rate variability
  • optimizing oxygen and nitric oxide delivery throughout the body
  • playing daily to destress and getting out in nature
  • having a hobby that you enjoy
  • the importance your food, air and water
  • acupuncture, Qi gong and other energy moving technique

It’s common for me to annually assess the markers of inflammation and look for signs of oxidation as well as difficulty detoxing in my clients:

  • C-RP – C-Reactive Protein, cardiac HS (High sensitivity)
  • Ferritin – iron stores (increased iron in the liver = inflammation)
  • Uric Acid – when elevated it’s linked to gout but also shows a build up of inflammation
  • Homocysteine – >8 = the liver showing slowed methylation/liver detox
  • Vitamin B12/folate – if one, or both are out of balance this can be a sign of slowed methylation
  • AST/ALT – liver enzymes
  • Vitamin D-25-Hydroxy – low levels often lead to more inflammation in the body
  • Creatinine
  • oxidized LDL

I also recommend an annual micronutrient test like the Metabolomix or the SpectraCell Micronutrient test.

Restoring your natural ability to sleep. Using personalized sleep coaching. Technology and online sleep education with sleep specialist and coach Devin Burke.

Both of these tests provide levels of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

The less antioxidants you have in your system the more you’re experiencing oxidative stress.

Plus the more stress put on your body without adequate recovery the more you’ll have oxidative stress.

I’ve seen this in myself and athletes as well – a huge reason why you can be fit by appearance and fitness level but have cardiovascular issues.

If someone has elevated cholesterol and would like further testing I recommend:

  • 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine
  • % reduced glutathione
  • Glutatione
  • F2-Isoprostane

The tests above can be ordered through Precision Point Labs from Rupa Health, the third party lab testing company I use.

If you’re keen on knowing what your DNA says about you – I highly recommend it these days to hone in on your cardiovascular risks. (my go-to lab is Intellxxdna.com)

While I mention testing to evaluate for inflammation and oxidative stress it’s key to remember you are more than your labs.

The symptoms you’re experiencing are also key indicators of inflammation and oxidative stress.

  • joint pain, stiffness and swelling
  • muscle pain
  • difficulty concentrating and focusing
  • balance and coordination issues
  • dulling and dryness of the skin
  • weight gain
  • taking longer to recover from physical activity
  • overwhelm and burnout
  • shortness of breath
  • insomnia

I could probably list every symptom imaginable and link it back to one or the other as well as link to decreased hormones too.

The take-a-way – you will develop inflammation and oxidative stress with age – it’s what ages you.

You will develop energetic blocks from emotions and injuries that show up along the way.

You can intervene.

Acupuncture, massage, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Yoga, Tibetan bowls, EFT, PEMF, grounding mats and many other therapies can help you move energy in the body.

Testing will bring to light what’s happening internally.

This is especially useful –  if you’re not having overt symptoms or you’re great at ignoring them.

Knowledge is power.

When you have a pulse (pun totally intended) on what’s happening internally you are able to make informed decisions about your healthcare.

The better you know yourself the more you can convey your needs to medical providers.
